How to dress when it snows in the city according to street style fashion Beautiful snow in the city, when the roofs turn white and for a moment the noises of the metropolis are muffled by that soft layer that settles along the streets. The atmosphere is magical especially if you stay at home with a fireplace and a cup of hot tea in your hands. The problem is when we have to go out: not everyone has a padded suit to face the cold and a pair of snow boots to walk with sure-footedness without slipping.

As you may have noticed from the street style shots from the February fashion weeks, the editors are often put to the test with their winter outfits due to the snow that covers New York, London, Milan and Paris. We need to find a balance between the need to cover up and protect yourself from the cold without giving up on seasonal fashion trends. Below you will find our style tips, already tested for you.

The layered snow look

It's not enough to cover yourself with wool to stay warm. Grandma's classic advice remains valid, which provides for a layered look (which corresponds to "dressing like an onion"): the first garment must be adherent to the body. The body or a  fabric shirt are perfect bases. At this point you can switch to the turtleneck and hip-length sweater. Finally, a nice thick outerwear or a down jacket.

Daring with colors

As with the ski slopes, color is always a good idea when it snows. It puts in a good mood and above all captures the attention in a landscape made of snow and ice. You can try a duvet in neon colors or a headband to cover the ears.

Hat or balaclava?

The baseball cap can be the last minute solution when you don't have a wool hat or a duvet hood available. The practical but trendy solution is the balaclava that allows you to protect your neck but also your head.

But it's not the only accessory needed to go out when it snows: also take a nice pair of thick gloves (leather or waterproof with furry lining) and a long scarf that will allow you to protect your throat from the cold of low temperatures.

You don't need a snowsuit…

… and not even a down jacket to face the snow in the city. If your coat is too light, we advise you to wear a shearling jacket, with a warm and soft inside. If instead a sweet hug, we recommend the Teddy coat.
